The Brandon Children

November 16th, 2008

To date, the greatest graving expedition I have ever experienced  was utterly serendipitous.

It was Mother's Day weekend of 2006 that my sister and I traveled to Natchez, Mississippi with our mother for a "girls only", get-away weekend.  The game plan was to spend our time chasing ghosts in forgotten parts of Mississippi.  Long lovers of local lore and tragically, seductive tales from the past, we'd mapped out an assortment of interesting spots to visit: the hauntingly beautiful Windsor Ruins, the ghost town of Rodney, and assorted "haunts" along the infamous Natchez Trace.  Unbeknownst to us, we would stumble upon a piece of forgotten history that would cause everything else on our trip to pale in comparison.

What we found that day, in a small and unmarked cemetery just off the Natchez Trace in Adams County, Mississippi, would become the foundation for an on-going personal project that I have called The Brandon Children (thebrandonchildren.com).

A return trip to the little cemetery and the Trace was made in November 2008, and I am currently in the process of updating the website and my Brandon Hall Cemtery Flickr set.
