It was a bittersweet weekend for residents of Idlewild Parish this past week as they attended a funeral and a wedding.
It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Desiderata Valley native, and friend to all, Opal Contrary. Opal passed away peacefully at her home only days after the family dog met his own end. Family members decided to bury them together. Opal's obituary ran in the local newspaper, The Winesbridge Mail:
Contrary, Opal Renee Miller A beloved wife and mother, she died at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 64 and was a resident and native of Desiderata Valley.
Survived by her husband, Edward A. Contrary; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick E. and Violet Jocque Contrary; a daughter, Francine D. Contrary; and granddaughter, Rowan L. Contrary.

The following weekend, Desiderata Valley celebrated the wedding of Astrid Kaitlin Jacquet, daughter of Natasha Therese Una and Gilbert Yves Jacquet, with Cale Finnegan Gregory. The young couple are currently on honeymoon at Twikkii Island and will be settling down in their new home on Main Street when they return.
