The Maxis-created Sims that came with The Sims 2 have a rich, often interwoven, ancestral history nestled into each neighborhood. I put together this guide to share with you these histories as I have found them out. I hope you enjoy it.
* These are the ancestries for Pleasantview and Strangetown; Veronaville will be coming at a later time.

The Beaker Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Beakers: Beaker, Halfdanarson, McGork, Salamis.
Loki and Circe (née Salamis) Beaker both come from a rich ancestry that appears to be a mixture of Greek, Scottish, German and...Simish. Resident Nervous Subject is the son of Olive Specter and his (and her) family history can be found below.
Loki Summary
Loki Beaker is the son of Bjorn and Gundrun (née Halfdanarson) Beaker. Bjorn and and Gundrun also had a daughter, Erin Singles (see below).
Bjorn Beaker (Loki's father), is the son of Canute and Gertrude Beaker.
Gundrun Beaker (Loki's mother), is the daughter of Leif and Ingibjorg Halfdanarson.
Circe Summary
Circe Beaker is the daughter of Xanthos and Grainne (née McGork) Salamis.
Xanthos Salamis (Circe's father), is the son of Andros and Eurydice Salamis.
Grainne Salamis (Circe's mother), is the daughter of Gwrtheym and Moira McGork.

The Broke Family of Pleasantview
Surnames associated with the Brokes: Broke, Newbie, Simovitch.
Though the Broke's are newcomers to the game, Brandi Broke is the daughter of none other than Bob & Betty Newbie - everyone's favorite tutorial Sims from the original The Sims game.
Brandi Summary
Compared to her deceased husband, Brandi comes from a strong background. Marrying Skip doesn't seem to have improved her lot in life, considering she starts the game a single mother with two young sons and one on the way - living in the equivalent of a shack.
Brandi is the only child of Bob Jr. and Betty (née Simovitch) Newbie. But the genealogical trail doesn't stop there, as we are also introduced to Brandi's grandparents: Bob Jr. is the son of Bob. Sr. and Mags Newbie, while Betty is the daughter of Vadim and Fatima Simovitch.
Skip Summary
Unknown before The Sims 2 (and even after, since he is dead when the game begins), Skip Broke is known only as the father of Dustin, Beau and Brandi's unborn son, and the man who drowned in a "mysterious pool" accident involving a missing ladder.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Flat and Flo Broke. (Do you get the idea they didn't exactly come from money?)

Surnames associated with the Burbs: Burb, Danders, Marsh, Pleasant.
The Burbs in The Sims 2 aren't exactly newcomers, and they are also are tied in with a new The Sims 2 family. Learn more about the rich histories of John & Jennifer Burb.
John Summary
John Burb made his first appearance in the original The Sims - you might remember him a "Johnny", who lived with his parents Brad and Tiffany Burb, and his pet dog, Tucker in the Unleashed expansion pack. Now all grown up and with a family of his own, John still has a rich heritage to boast of - he is the son of Brad and Tiffany (née Marsh) Burb, the suburbanites of The Sims Unleashed.
Brad Burb is the son of Susan and Bejamin Burb. Tiffany is the daughter of William and Anastasia Marsh; all deceased.
Jennifer Summary
Jennifer isn't just some Townie John picked up off the streets - she has a rich ancestry of her own, and, you might be surprised to learn, it comes from none other than the Pleasant family.
Jennifer is the sister of Daniel Pleasant (husband of Mary Sue & father of twins, Angela & Lilith); their parents were Jeff and Diane (née Danders) Pleasant. Jeff was the son of Les and Kynda Pleasant, and Diane was the daughter of Marshall and Melinda Danders.

The Caliente Family of Pleasantview
Surnames associated with the Calientes: Al Mahmoud, Caliente.
The hot and controversial Caliente sisters have a past almost as interesting as the present-days lives they start the game with.
Dina & Nina Summary
Twin sisters, Dina and Nina, are the daughters of Flamenco and Nighat (née Al Mahmoud) Caliente, both deceased.
Flamenco is the son of Nestor and Dulcinea Caliente, obvious fans of salsa dancing; Flamenco had a half-brother, Tango, who never married. However, Dulcinea is not the mother of Flamenco; he was the result of an alien abduction that Nestor went through. His mother/father (however that works) was Pollinatioin Technician #7.
Nighat is the daughter of Tariq and Benazir Al Mahmoud.

The Curious Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Calientes: Curious, Hogleg.
The Curious Brothers have a curious ancestry, that's for sure.
Lazlo, Pascal & Vidcund Summary
The Curious Brothers are the younger siblings of Jenny (née Curious) Smith, who is married to alien, Pollination Technician #9. They are also the half-siblings of the Singles twins, Chloe and Lola, who were born from their father, Glam, after being impregnated by P.T. #9. Talk about a tangled web!
The brothers, along with Jenny, are the children of Glam and Kitty (née Hogleg) Curious. Glam is also the father of half-alien twins, Lola and Chloe, from an abduction.
Glam was the son of Notzo and Zo Curious.
Kitty was the daughter of Hamm and Annie Hogleg. Yes, Hogleg. I know it sounds odd.

The Dreamer Family of Pleasantview
Surnames associated with the Dreamers: Darong, Dreamer, Matlapin.
The Dreamers are newcomers to The Sims 2, but still have a rich background.
Darren Summary
Widowed father, Darren Dreamer, starts off the game with big dreams - and a hopeless crush. Hopefully his future turns around and becomes as enriched as his past. Maybe it's the "D" that is cursed - Darren needs to move away from the "D" names.
Darren is the only son of Davis and Delilah (née Darong) Dreamer (see what I mean about the D's?). Darren's father, Davis, was the son of Dalmar and Dacia Dreamer (THE D!).
Delilah, his mother, was the daughter of apparent musicians, Sef and Lina Darong.
Darleen Summary
Though she is deceased when you start playing the game, it's worth noting Darleen's ancestry - if nothing more than for her son Dirk's sake. Darleen was the daughter of Omar and Mariana Matlapin. At least there were no D's in that ancestry.

The Goth Family of Pleasantview
Surnames associated with the Goths: Bachelor, Crumplebottom, Goth.
The Goth's have been around a very long time - since the original Sims game was issued in 2000. Their family line has grown, and The Sims 2 gives us some a nice look back at what has become the most prominent family in Pleasantview.
Mortimer Summary
The Goth family originated with Victor and Gretle Goth. The couple had two children: Gunther Goth and Frida Goth. Frida never married, but Gunther (Mortimer's father) went on to marry Cornelia Crumplebottom.
Cornelia (Mortimer's mother), is the daughter of Simon and Prudence Crumplebottom. She also has a sister, Agnes Crumplebottom (aka Mrs. Crumplebottom).
Bella Summary
Bella (née Bachelor) Goth came from a much less prominent family than her husband. She was the daughter of Simis and Jocasta Bachelor. She also had a brother, Michael Bachelor, who married Dina Caliente before dying of - presumably - old age.
Bella disappeared as an Adult, the mother of two children. Rumors were that she was having an affair with Don Lothario (her daughter's fiancé), and that he and longtime girlfriend, Dina Caliente, (also Bella's sister-in-law) plotted to do away with her so that Dina would have a chance at seducing Mortimer (and accquiring his fortune). Some, however, simply believe that Bella was abducted by aliens and never returned.

The Grunt Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Grunts: Grunt, Vandermorgan.
In alien-friendly Strangetown, the Grunts are nearly the outcasts. Still, their past is interesting - and kooky - enough to help them fit in.
General Buzz Summary
Gen. Buzz comes from a long line of professional military men. His father was General Chip Grunt, who was married to Missy Grunt.
General Chip was the son of General Rock and Wanda Grunt.
Obviously a male-dominated family, the Grunts are the only Maxis-created family without a definite female line. Buzz's mother is listed only as "Missy Grunt"; we have no idea of her ancestry. But what do you expect from a family that names their patriarchs Rock, Chip and Buzz?
Lyla Summary
Long-dead and divorced even before that, it seems pointless to even mention Lyla (née Vandermorgan) Grunt - but she is the mother of Tank, Ripp and Buck, and that makes her ancestry important in the game.
With the death of Lyla, the Vandermorgan family was no more. She was the only child of A.P. and Jacqueline Vandermorgan.
Lyla died of electrocution sometime after she and Buzz divorced.

Lonely Ajay Loner originally had a pretty decent-sized family.
Ajay Summary
Ajay Loner is the son of Vikram and Madhuri (née Frehndly) Loner.
Vikram Loner (Ajay's father) is the son of Kavi and Jeevika Loner.
Madhuri Loner (Ajay's mother) is the daughter of Bhu and Milony Frehndly.

When you start the game, Don Lothario is engaged to heiress Cassandra Goth and is rumored to have had a part in her mother, Bella's, disapperance. On the side, he's also having affairs with his old girlfriend, Nina Caliente, and maid, Kaylynn Langerak. Though starting quite a legacy himself, Don also comes from a rich heritage.
Don Summary
Don Lothario is the only child of Nicolo and Adriana (née Fiorello) Lothario, both deceased.
Nicolo (Don's father) is the son of Carmelo and Mama Lothario.
Adriana (Don's mother) is the daughter of Primo and Isabella Fiorello.

Herb Oldie is the son of Myron and Irma Oldie. He married Coral Ruggbyrne; the couple are an elderly playable couple in the Pleasantview Sim bin when you start the game. Coral and Herb adopted a daughter, Mary Sue - who married Daniel Pleasant.
Coral Summary
Coral (née Ruggbyrne) Oldie married Herb Oldie and is the adoptive mother of Mary Sue (née Oldie) Pleasant. She is the only child of Bruno and Mamie Ruggbyrne.
Daniel Summary
Daniel Pleasant is the son of Jeff and Diane (née Danders) Pleasant. He also has a sister, Jennifer, who is married to John Burb. He married Mary Sue Oldie, and they have twin daughters, Angela and Lilith.
Jeff (Daniel and Jennifer's father) is the son of Les and Kynda Pleasant.

The Singles Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Singles: Beaker, Curious, Loste, Simnitch, Singles, Smith.
All of the four Singles women living in the Singles household have a rich ancestry. Erin is the sister of Loki Beaker, and her heritage can be there (Beaker, above). Chloe and Lola are the daughters of Pollination Technician # 9 (Smith, below) and Glam Curious (Curious, above).
Kristen Singles is the only Sim in the household who doesn't have ties to any other Strangetowners, so it is her family's past that is described here.

Kristen Singles is the daughter of Arty and Daisy (née Simnitch) Loste.
Arty Loste (Kristen's father) is the son of Goshem and Vera Loste.

The Smith Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Smiths: Birth Queen, Colony Drone, Curious, Smith.
Pollination Technician #9 Smith, The Sims 2 main resident alien, is married to Jenny Curious and lives a quiet, seemingly normal suburban life. Charting his ancestry can get a little confusing, but here are the facts as we know them.
P.T. #9 Summary
P.T. #9, after having a successful pollination career, has moved to Strangetown and married a female Sim - with who he has started a family. Along with his two children with Jenny Curious (Johnny and Jill), P.T. #9 is the pollinator of Lola and Chloe Singles into Jenny's father, Glam Curious.
Jenny Summary
Jenny is the older sister of the Curious brothers, and her family ancestry can be found above.

The Specter Family of Strangetown
Surnames associated with the Specters: Muenda, Nigmos, Specter.
Olive Specter is an odd, elderly Sim living in Strangetown with her teen niece, Ophelia Nigmos. The two have a very mysterious past.
Olive Summary
Besides being rumored to have bonked the Grim Reaper, Olive is also the widow of four separate men and the only living survivor of her family besides Ophelia; she is preceded in death by both parents along with her sister and brother-in-law.
Olive is the daughter of Peponi and Lerato Muenda; their other daughter, Willow, married Creon Nigmos and the two had daughter, Ophelia, before dying in a mysterious drowning accident. Peponi and Lerato also died before their time; both in a fire.
Olive's husbands were, in (possible) order, Hugh Thanasia, Earl E. DeMise, Rigger Mortis, and Ichabod Specter. Olive had no children with any of these men, but is purported to have given birth to Nervous Subject (found in the Beaker home) after a fling with the Grim Reaper. Nervous was taken by the social worker when he was very young for unknown reasons.
Ophelia Summary
Poor Olive is forced to live with her eccentric (and possibly deadly) old aunt after the drowning deaths of her parents, Creon and Willow (née Muenda) Nigmos.
There is a bit more to Ophelia's past, though, that is not connected with Olive's: her father, Creon, was the son of Zog and Hecate Nigmos.
