Welcome to skatoolaki.com, the main (of many) websites of Shanna Riley. Here you will find the bulk of my writings, musings, and sundry things along with links to all of my other online works and profiles (of which there are, as I said, many). Please be sure to also check out my blog, Digitopus, or follow me on Twitter @skatoolaki.
A little more about me is in order I suppose. I'm a passionate, fiery walking contradiction whose two main hobbies are gaming and graving. I share my life and home with my near-perfect boyfriend and our four cats: Gia, JoJo, Maggie, and Max, and one Beta fish named Google.
I'm an Information Technology Technician Office Specialist - which is really just a fancy way of saying I get paid to work on computers. My job actually entails my being a jack-of-all-trades wherein computers are concerned so I do a little bit of everything: troubleshooting, help desk, networking, property control, database creation and management, so on and so forth.
I also do websites...a lot...for personal pleasure and financial gain. I taught myself web design in a 12-hour all-nighter one balmy summer in 1997 and haven't looked back since.
I'm pretty much a complete autodidact; all of my passions, trades, and abilities are self-taught. In fact, I have nothing beyond a high school diploma as far as schooling or training goes.
Though computing and designing pay the bills, I was born a writer. Writing is what I do; it is who I am. "I write, therefore I am" may sound cheesy and trite, but it is the essence of mySelf.
As with everything else in my life, I can't be pigeonholed into one category or genre. I write a little bit of just about everything, though currently only some of my erotica has been published.
I believe one cannot write if one has not lived, and living I've done plenty of in my 30-some odd years of life. I have driven across the country, been hungry and homeless, and slammed down to rock bottom on more than one occasion.
There isn't much I can think of other than little things...I collect quotations and (in a blank journal since 1994) names, and once owned a Def Leppard memorabilia collection worth over $2,000 (I still have what I haven't lost over years of moving around).
I am also an amatuer genealogist always researching my maternal line, which is predominantly Cajun French, German, and Spanish.
My idols are Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, Isadora Duncan, and Thomas Jefferson. My favorite currently living person is Rob Brezsny. Presently, I am madly in love with tabla drums and Baked Lays.
Thanks for visiting.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.
- Albert Einstein.
